■ Careers 1999 BS, Korea University (Genetic Engineering) 2001 MS, Korea University (Molecular Medicine) 2002 Researcher, Kyung Hee University, College of Pharmacy 2007 PhD, University of Utah, USA (Neurobiology and Anatomy) 2007~2012 Post-doc, Neurogenetics Lab, University of California San Diego/HHMI, USA 2013~current Assistant Professor, Samsung Genome Institute, Samsung Advanced Institute of Health Science and Technology, Sungkyunkwan University ■ Research Summary The recent tremendous advancement of several techniques in the filed of human genomics made getting genomic information of one person in 3-4 days possible. Therefore, it is not difficult anymore to find the candidate disease genes from the patient’s genomic information. In order to treat the diseases, however, it is necessary to understand function of the causative genes and disease mechanism. Therefore, our lab aims to identify novel disease genes from cancer and neurological disorders and dissect function of molecules in the disease mechanism. To achieve our goal, we more focus on the role of primary cilium, which is involved in many diseases by functioning in diverse cellular and developmental processes, and perform the experiments to understand (i) mechanism of primary ciliary assembly and disassembly, (ii) effect of primary ciliary function on cancer and neurological disorders and related molecular mechanism, and to perform (iii) several physiological tests and drug tests after acquiring disease models using zebrafish. ■ Keyword Genetics/Genomics, Primary cilium, zebrafish, disease mechanism/modeling ■ Selected Publications 1.
