■ Research Interests

Since October 2002, have been reporting deep brain stimulation (DBS) in patients with refractory epilepsy for the first time in Korea and Asia since I was working at the Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital. From September 2008 to August 2009, we have been conducting researches on the clinical technique through the brain of animals while studying at the Mayo Clinic in USA for the first time and have published 15 SCI papers and 3 domestic papers related to DBS . Despite the short time since moving to SMC in March 2016, we have experienced more cases than before and excellent results in terms of treatment efficacy. In addition, research on medicinal treatment through mediation research is actively proceeding. Therefore, we are also carrying out a government task (Research Fundamental Research for 2015) for study of EEG analysis before and after DBS treatment.
Future treatment of intractable epilepsy is likely to be less invasive or noninvasive electrical and / or ultrasound technology, and I am conducting various intervention studies on various non-surgical brain control methods. Samsung Medical Center Smart Healthcare Medical Device Research Center was jointly selected by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE) in 2017 for the task of developing a high-intensity focused ultrasound system for treating brain diseases and genitourinary diseases based on MRI (total of 7.5 billion won for five years) Currently, we are focusing on clinical application of focused ultrasound system for the treatment of cerebral infarction. We are also working on a subcutaneous, magnetic induction neuromodulation for neurological disorders in the Middle East with Professor D.L. Na and will soon be ready to settle up the full lab and further funding resources.
